Industrial and Retail Division OperationsThe Industrial and Retail Division will add value to Sweet White Lupin seed, its by-products and Triticale, by further processing it for sale as an Ingredient or finished product. It will not engage in retail sales or institutional sales, but rather will sell through a direct sales force of brokers, when appropriate. INDUSTRIAL AND RETAIL DIVISION OPERATIONS
Several industrial food ingredients and products have already been fully developed and are being marketed and sold to the food processing industry. These include Sweet White Lupin products such as:
Good Grains International, Inc. has extensively promoted these and other products among industrial food producers and is in the process of providing several major manufacturers with Sweet White Lupin and Triticale product for testing purposes. In addition, a major dog food company, Alpo, is testing Sweet White Lupin products, and an Italian food producer, Quaker, is testing Lupran as well, with the potential for 500 tons of fiber usage in 2002 and up to 1,500 tons by 2003. Major bakery supply and breakfast cereal companies are evaluating Lupran for inclusion in their high-fiber mixes and cereals. An order for a major high-fiber cereal could utilize most of 2001 inventories of Lupran and 10 to 20 percent of 2002 inventories. Utilization in both industries appears feasible. The Retail Division will produce a premium range of cholesterol-free pasta high in protein and fiber and low in calories. The pasta line is now in health food stores nationally in the United States and is currently distributed through major grocery chains in 30 states. A new product development program has the objective of introducing two new products each year ranging from bakery mixes and pasta, to cereals and soups. The Industrial segment has developed a variety of edible-fiber and oil products, which have superior characteristics to similar soy products. For the time being, the Retail Division will develop the selling, throughout the Pacific Rim, of the Lupini Pasta product line which was introduced into the U.S. market in late 1987. Also, Good Grains International, Inc. is negotiating with a small pasta firm in Hawaii to enter manufacture, or enter into a joint venture to produce its product line in Hawaii. |
